Unleash Your Influence:
The 4-Step Stakeholder Mastery Challenge

Overview: Transform your ability to drive decisions by mastering Patrick’s four-step stakeholder management process. This short, actionable challenge will help you identify key players, understand their mindset, set a compelling vision, and take strategic steps to win their support—all in just a few focused tasks!

Your Step-by-Step Challenge:

1) Spot the Power Players

Create a list of 3-5 key stakeholders for a project or goal.

Include at least one decision-maker, one potential blocker (active or passive resistor), and one raving fan or advisor.

Tip: Think broadly—blockers might include a CFO who controls budgets or a colleague who says “interesting” but never commits.

Output: A short list with names, roles, and their influence type (e.g., decision-maker, blocker).

2) Map Their Mindset—Point A

For each stakeholder, jot down their current state: What are their beliefs, frustrations, or level of support?

Rate their support from -3 (strongly opposed) to +3 (highly enthusiastic).

Tip: Reflect on Patrick’s example of “frustrated” or “fatigued” stakeholders. Are they ready for change, adopting it, or resisting?

Output: A brief note for each stakeholder (e.g., “CFO: -2, skeptical, fatigued by new initiatives”).

3) Craft a Bold Vision—Point B

Define a clear, ambitious, yet achievable goal for one stakeholder to support.

Make it specific (e.g., “Convince the CFO to approve a $10K budget for HR training by March”).

Tip: Avoid extremes—too grand (e.g., “revolutionize HR”) or too small (e.g., “tweak a form”). Aim for a stretch that excites them.

Output: One sentence describing the desired decision or action.

4) Bridge the Gap with Action

Pick one stakeholder and outline 1-2 specific actions to move them from Point A to Point B.

Examples: Schedule a meeting to address their concerns or share a success story to spark enthusiasm.

Tip: Think of Patrick’s “straight line” approach—focus on clear, direct influence tactics.

Output: A short action plan (e.g., “Email CFO with data on training ROI, propose 15-min meeting”).

Challenge Wrap-Up:

Next Steps: Review your outputs and take the first action within 24 hours to build momentum.

Reflect on Patrick’s call to action: “What’s the first step you’re going to take?”

Bonus: Share your stakeholder list or action plan with a colleague for feedback to refine your approach.

Why It’s Awesome!

This challenge empowers you to turn blockers into allies and vague “interesting” responses into committed support, all while crafting a clear path to influence.

Get ready to unleash your inner power broker!
