An effective way to reduce burnout is to get to understand where your time is actually being used —
Step 1: Start Tracking –
For the next week, treat your main work project like a premium client.
Log your time daily in a simple spreadsheet, categorizing it into setup (prep), delivery (main work), and follow-up (wrap-up).
Step 2: Identify Patterns –
At the end of each day, note any stress triggers, like tech issues or over-preparation.
Track if you're feeling run-down or "sick" leading up to tasks.
Step 3: Graph Your Effort –
After 3-4 days, plot your total time per day on a graph (Y-axis: hours, X-axis: days).
Look for spikes and ask: "What's the common stressor here?"
Step 4: Simplify One Thing –
Pick the biggest time-suck (e.g., excessive material creation) and cut it in half—aim for efficiency over perfection, like reducing prep from 70:1 to something sustainable.
Step 5: Review and Adjust –
At week's end, add "red bars" to your graph marking simplification changes.
Celebrate the drop in effort and plan to maintain the new lower energy level.
